Walk The Earth
The birth of ‘Jessy in the Jungle’…
They say that the word jungle derives from the Hindu origins of the lexis ‘jangal’ and the Sanskrit word ‘jangala’ - both of which translate to ‘wild, uncultivated land’. Years later, it was adopted into English during the colonial era with a specific reference to dense, tropical forests.
When we think of the jungle we often envision a dense, tropical forest, with tangled vegetation and a variety of wildlife. It can be chaotic, or even a tangled mass. Either way it is layers and layers of life. It is where the wild things are, where the animals roam free, the soil is deep and rich - the land thick with history and stories - the earth whispering its lessons to us.
Like life, the jungle is brimming with unpredictability, and obstacles that require a level of resilience, adaptability and trust. They mirror our everyday life, and are dull of growth and discovery.
The grassy, leafy landscapes being home to so many inhabitants… and somewhere along the way, we forgot about the jungle. Our birthplace as human beings. These intricate webs of life that play such a crucial role to our biodiversity.
It is the place where I thrive, where my curiosity is at its highest, where I am drawn to exploration and adventure and am equally free and rooted.
So here we are in the birth of this website… exploring our earth’s hidden treasures through a collection of words, photographs and films, as I venture into the metaphorical ‘jungle of life’… into the wild.
And as Carrie Bradshaw would say…
“I couldn’t help but wonder…”
