Hello reader!
I’m Yasmine in the Jungle.
I’m the founder of Al Rūḥ and for a long time, this felt like a baby that was growing inside of me that needed to be birthed…
A little bit about me:
I’m a multicultural and multilingual ethnographic documentary filmmaker, photojournalist, travel writer and holistic healer with a:
BA in Fine Art & Art History (Newcastle University)
BA in Journalism, Film & Photography (Concordia University)
MA in Ethnographic Documentary Film (UCL)
further studies in Transpersonal Psychology (Oxford University)
With a unique blend of professional expertise, personal passion, and transformative life experiences, I am deeply passionate on educating and guiding others on healing through storytelling via Al Rūḥ. Growing up immersed in holistic practices, I developed an innate understanding of the connection between body, mind, and spirit. My journey was profoundly shaped by undergoing a spiritual awakening and a “dark night of the soul,” which led me to seek my own healing, reconnect with my roots, and embrace my authentic self.
Having Egyptian heritage, growing up in Cyprus and Switzerland, and living and traveling in countries from the UK to Canada to Italy to Brazil to Japan etc, I bring a deeply multicultural perspective that celebrates diversity and interconnectedness.
My knowledge of languages allows me to connect across cultures and honour the stories embedded in them.
Fluent in English, Arabic, Greek and Portuguese;
Intermediate in Spanish and Italian
Beginners in French and German;
Currently learning Japanese
While my academic background in Ethnographic Documentary Filmmaking has given me knowledge in:
Gender, Race & Ethnicity in Latin America,
The Anthropology of Kinship, Gender & Ethnicity,
Gender, Generation & Forced Migration,
Short Fiction and the Making of Modern Brazil.
I have experience working within the production and camera departments on various productions varying from news to feature films, scripted TV drama, shorts, documentaries, commercials, fashion, and music videos for companies such as HBO, Warner Bros, Apple TV, Channel 4, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon, United Nations, Agence France Presse, CBC, Sky, Vogue, Dazed, Vice, Marvel, Photographers Without Borders, NBC, Universal Studios, Sony Music etc. and with brands such as Birkenstock, Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo, Moncler, Levi’s, Adidas, Nike, Airbnb, The Dorchester Hotel, Vodafone, Starbucks, LEGO, Audemars Piguet etc.
Coupled with my certifications in Usai Reiki, Angelic Reiki, and further studies in Channeling, Spiritual Ecology, Sacred Sites, and When Women Were The Land, in addition to my work in yoga studios, and personal interests in Transpersonal Psychology, Sound Healing, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sacred Circles, Children’s Art Therapy, Horse Healing and Healing Ancestral Lineages, I bring a holistic perspective that bridges culture, spirituality, and healing.
My Ikigai lies in blending my background in anthropology, languages, and filmmaking with my passion for spirituality. Through this fusion, I document diverse healing practices, bridge cultural and spiritual traditions, and connect humanity with the earth.
I am extremely passionate about women, land, indigenous knowledge, rituals, places of worship, sacred sites, and travelling the world. You’ll often find me exploring our planet Earth, walking around barefoot, talking, singing and dancing to trees, flowers, animals, oceans, stars, local communities and little ones, that or you’ll find me on a yoga mat or in a book shop holding a mountain of novels.
Through Al Rūḥ, I weave these diverse experiences to guide others in reconnecting with their roots, uncovering their ancestral stories, and awakening the sacred wisdom and healing within themselves and the world around them.
Lots of light,
Yasmine in the Jungle x
